So much to do. Morrowind through the eyes of a first time player.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 10:26 AM PDT

I started really playing Morrowind for the first time on a whim at the beginning of September. I have badly been wanting to immerse myself in an RPG lately and no new game has seemed to fill the void. After a few false starts due to modding complications, I finally got the game in a good-looking state with a few add accessibility mods to make it easier on someone who's only TES experience has been with Skyrim. With the game in a stable state, I decided to set off on my journey to figure out why there was so much hype around a game that was created when I was 12 years old.

At first, it felt slow, I didn't really know what to do with all of the information I was given at the beginning of the game, and everything seemed so wide open that I wasn't sure if I should follow the main plot or just go off and do my own thing. In the end, I decided to spend about 4 or 5 hours in Seyda Neen doing every quest and exploring everything in the area. Once I had some gear and a level or two, I felt like I was ready to travel onward further into the land of Vvardenfell.

I won't bore everyone with all the details of my journey, but I will say this is the longest I have played a game in a very long time. There is more in this game than I ever could have imagined and I feel like there are still 100s of quests that will still need to be done even after this first playthrough. I am only about halfway through the main questline which I have tried not to put on the back burner too much, but I constantly find myself wandering off into new quests every time I launch the game. I guess I said all of that to say this, Morrowind is an amazing game and even with some of its dated mechanics, it's one of the best games I've ever played.

TLDR: So far I love Morrowind and I can't believe it took me this long to give it a try.

I scanned one of my drawings, it looks much better and looks like the Art of Morrowind concept art.

Few unique builds with backstories you might be interested in for your next playthrough

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 09:41 AM PDT

Recently i was thinking about playing through Morrowind once again and i thought up 4 different characters that could be interesting for you guys to play in my opinion. One of them requires a mod, others can be played entirely in vanilla. All of them are viable and can be made pretty op if you want them to.

I often see many people here asking about builds, how good they are and what should they play so i thought that this might help someone.

I try to limit my characters abilities so they all play little differently and give all of them some actual character.

    --------------------

-- thief archetype -- First build is the rapier wielding Breton (requires mod that adds lore friendlyish rapiers to the game here)

    Sex: Male

    Race: Breton

    Specialization: Stealth

    Sign: The Lover

    Favored Attributes: Agility and Speed

Major skills: Long blade, Unarmored, Sneak, Speechcraft

Minor skills: Light Armor, Illusion, Alteration, Acrobatics, Marksman

Factions to join: Hlaalu, Thieves guild, Imperial Legion, Morag Tong, East Empire Company, Blades

Background and gameplay: Rapier wielding breton with agile body and charming personality. Uses crossbows and throw weapons. Never fights fair – uses rapier marksman and levitation for long reach, sneak for preemptive strike, illusion magic to deceive others. Loves riches, luxury, expensive items, extravagant lifestyle, alcohol, drugs, women, slaves, parties and gambling.

Core of this build is that magic is just supportive skill for him. He's never too good with it and thats why he doesnt really like other Bretons because he was made fun of because of his lack of magical skills and sees them as his rivals.

Morally grey, isnt afraid of dirty work. You never do quests just because people tell you, your motivation is power, money and other material means, you can also do them just for his amusement of course (example - the pants quest). Guy doesnt really care about loyalty towards any particular faction but dislikes dunmer savages and traditionalists overall.

He spends a lot of money on the things i mentioned - get a lot of slaves, power, money, skooma, moon sugar, mansions - basically Tony Montana type of guy but a little bit more evil.

Prefer raising agility, speed, luck, personality, strength

    --------------------

-- Warrior archetype -- Second build is the temple warrior priestess

    Sex: Female

    Race: Dunmer

    Specialization: Combat

    Sign: Attronach

    Favoured attributes: Willpower, Endurance

Major skills: Medium armor, Restoration, Mysticism, Alteration, Spear

Minor skills: Heavy armor, Long Blade, Marksman, Hand to Hand, Block

Factions to join: Redoran, Temple, Fighters guild, Imperial Legion

Background and gameplay: Faithful, inspired and skilled temple warrior – combination of medium armor, spear and weapons with supportive magic – restoration, mysticisim, alteration. Very balanced character capable dealing with any situation. More defensively focused.

Traditionalist - joins temple at young age and is blinded by its faith. Is mostly frowned upon because she cant regenerate magica and isnt capable of destruction magic. She doesnt steal, do morally grey quests, helps the poor but doesnt mind slavery at first because thats the tradition. She was sent to Vvardenfell as undercover prisoner to break down Nerevarine cult.

Later on during the main quest she finds out the truth about false gods and lies of the temple which changes her a bit. She is more experienced at this point and dislikes slavery but she herself becomes a bit more morally grey character. Fullfilling the prophecy is her main goal - she knows she needs more power to defeat Dagoth Ur and later the whole Tribunal so she tries her best to gain that through almost whatever means necessary (money, artifacts, theft, vampirism ...).

Her playstyle is pretty defensive - heavier armor, spear, block, supportive magic. Marksman is mostly about using bows and crossbows.

In comparison to the Breton build which is more on the Imperial side and modern civilization, this Dunmer is all about traditionalism and what it brings.

Prefer raising endurance, strength, willpower, inteligence, agility, speed

    --------------------

-- Mage archetype -- Third build is of a Dunmer magister

    Sex: Male

    Race: Dunmer

    Specialization: Magic

    Sign: Apprentice

    Favoured attributes: Willpower, Intelligence

Major skills: Conjuration, Destruction, Mysticism, Alteration, Illusion

Minor skills: Unarmored, Light armor, Short blade, Long Blade, Marksman

Factions to join: Telvanni, Morag Tong, Mages guild, Fighters guild, Legion

Background and gameplay: Power hungry heavy magic user with nightblade style of gameplay. Every faction can be completed easily with this build and its probably the strongest overall. He forsakes defense for an all out offense (apprentice sign, no restoration magic, low endurance, only light armor). You have very powerful spells and weapons but you are also quite weak to damage.

Hes pretty confident in his abillities. Is somewhere in the middle between the first two builds - cares for tradition but also knows changes need to be made. Against slavery.

Is interested in various magical artifacts that could provide him even more power, tries to hoard them and keeps them for himself. Is willing to use any method to increase his own abilities – drugs, alcohol, potions, vampirism, lycantrophy.

Prefer raising willpower, intelligence, strength, agility, speed

    --------------------

-- Last build is of old war veteran who has had enough of life and magic.

    Sex: Male

    Race: Imperial

    Specialization: Combat

    Sign: Serpent

    Favoured attributes: Willpower, Intelligence

Major skills: Alchemy, Hand to Hand, Axe, Blunt weapon, Unarmored

Minor skills: Medium armor, Armorer, Block, Marksman, Mercantile

Factions to join: Imperial Legion, Imperial Cult, Hlaalu, EEC, Fighters Guild

Background and gameplay: You play as older guy who is a veteran of many wars but is in his years already - not so strong and fast anymore. All of his skills are average except alchemy. Alchemy is the major skill that will make the difference between life and death. His weapon skills, armor, block are just average. He counts on his alchemy skills and potions to survive hard battles.

Main thing about this character is that he doesnt trust magic at all (because his entire family has died because of it or he saw what magic can do on the battlefields or something), so no magical artifacts, weapons and armors to make you more powerful. Hes just old school - trusty steel, leather and chainmail armor amd weapons - no daedric and no other dunmer traditional armor - chitin, netch, bonemold, ebony and such.

Thing with this is that he wont grow more powerful with weapons and armor so you have to compensate with potions.

Dislikes mages, traditional dunmeri culture. Likes alcohol and his crossbow very much.

Prefer raising intelligence, strength, endurance and agility.

Thats all i got. These builds arent perfect and complete but i wouldnt bother with harsher restrictions and backstory. If you have any questions just ask away or post your build ideas.

How to make my game much harsher and harder?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 07:37 AM PDT

Hello guys, i played Morrowind enough to know that this game gets very very easy few levels in.

I am thinking about doing my next playthrough and i am curious about how to make the game harder.

Of course, no alchemy and enchant abuse, no atronach sign, picking up op items early. Max difficulty from start to finish is a given too.

What else can i do to make my game harder?

I am using Beware of the Sixth House mod.

Was also thinking about using Ashfall but i just dont like managing all the aspects of that...
