Why I also do not recommend MGSO

    Dear Morrowind players and modders,

It is not easy for me to write this message, after so long. I do not know how many of you were around at the time I was active on the Bethesda forums and know who I am. I am writing this message because I really feel like I need to explain a couple of things about how things went with MGSO.

I started working on Morrowind Overhaul in 2007, at the age of 14. Back then it was just a version in Italian, but then quickly became an international English version until the last release in 2012. At that point, as many other 18 year-old kids, I started university and my personal life changed completely. I began having way less free time and be way more stressed than I was used to. Therefore, the Morrowind Overhaul project was put on hold to concentrate more on those aspects of my life. Unfortunately, in the following years the situation was not improving so much, and at the end I almost forgot about Morrowind, and gaming in general. The reason I am writing you this message is because I promised, back then, that I would keep the mod compilation up to date and respected all the modders' wishes. Indeed, in 2012 I was working on an auto-update software that would have made this so much easier. Sadly, I was not able to finish it in time.

I failed to keep my promise and I am really sorry for that.

Being now an almost graduated computer scientist, I am perfectly aware about how flawed MGSO v3 is, especially in the software side. I had really not su much experience in programming and far less artistic talent than the modders, but I tried to publish the best product I could. Because I was rushing the completion of the mod compilation towards the end, I also failed to keep enough options to make it look and sound faithful to the vanilla MW version. My objective was not to give people a messy compilation just for the glory, but really to attract as many people as possible to Morrowind and the modding community in general, emphasizing the talent of all the content creators that partecipated in the project. I hope that I at least partially succeeded in this.

In one month I will have my thesis defense. After that point, I will decide if I should take the project down completely because it is really too flawed, or work on it. In any case, if the compilation is not taken down, I will for sure rebuild it from the ground up. By no means at the current state MGSO can stay online, because how old it is right now and how many issue it has. I am quite confident that with my knowledge at this point, the result would be miles better, but we will see. I still see some potential in it, but maybe I am just too biased in this sense.

    Thanks for reading!

I want to come back. How do I make it pretty?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 04:38 PM PST

Right, so morrowind was my absolute favourite thing for ages. I loved the lore and the other elder scrolls don't really cut it. But I've been playing Skyrim recently which is really pretty for it age. This has kinda made getting back into morrowind a bit hard.

I'm looking for mods to make it pretty, but I'm pretty bad at following install instructions and I'm not sure which ones I would want. Does anyone know of good mods that are simple to install and how to install them?

    Bonus info:

Dwemer are my absolute favourite thing in this series. The last play through I had I tried to get all the dwemer books and I also tried to get all the ones in Skyrim.

    Bonus question:

Is ESO morrowind expansion remotely similar? Would it be worth it? Given I'd have to buy base game too.

    Quest Line Suggestions

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 11:14 AM PST

    Hi all,

About to embark on a new Morrowind play-through. Attempting to RP pretty heavy with this one. I've decided on making an ex-imperial legionnaire put for redemption. So of course there's the legion and the cult, but the twist I'm going to add in is that someway through he loses his regard for the empire and becomes fascinated by Dunmer culture/religion in an attempt to bring himself some consolation and of course gets sucked into the main plot along the way. Does anyone have any ideas for quest order, thank you in advance for any help!

Im trying to get the resolution on my new widescreen monitor correct. Is the exterior door to Arkngthand supposed to be a true circle, or an ellipse?

Just chose that door specifically since we'd all be familiar with it. Im sure any other similar door would be fine too.
