An Analysis of Native Velothi Alcohol and the Source of Sujamma

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 11:56 AM PST

I have worked out what, exactly, sujamma from the Elder Scrolls games is, categorically, in terms of liquor.

It's, canonically, a strong liquor native to Morrowind. That's it. However, if we look at the possible plants it can be produced from, the actual geology of Vvardenfell, and real-world analogues, I feel we can safely determine exactly what sujamma is.

There are basically only 4 plants endemic to Morrowind that can be used to produce alcohol: saltrice, comberry, trama root, and scathecraw. Note that this analysis is a combination of real-world sources of alcohol and in-game lore.

Saltrice is used to produce matze canonically, which is basically a low-grade sake. Comberry is used to make shein and greef, which are a weak wine and a brandy, respectively. Greef is likely produced via distillation of shein, so comberry cannot be used in the production of sujamma. Likewise, matze as a base for distillation would not be viable, as sake cannot be used in distillation due to the way it is produced.

This leaves us with two possible options: trama root and scathecraw. Trama root would most likely produce a vodka of some kind, as do most root vegetables, but we have problems with using it as a basis for it serving as the source of sujamma. For one, rather than being endemic to Vvardenfell and Morrowind as a whole, trama root also grows in the regions of Solstheim that maintained their original climate and ecosystem in the wake of the Red Year. This implies that trama root is too widespread to be the source of sujamma, and is likely the source of another distillate, or perhaps is incapable of being used to produce alcohol.

This leaves scathecraw, which I feel is the best fit. Not only is it a plant tied to volcanic soils, as it does not grow on Solstheim beyond the range of the ashfall, but it has morphological similarities to another plant that is the source of a strong, region-specific liquor associated with volcanic soils: the blue agave.

In fact, this makes it the prime candidate for the source of sujamma, as tequila basically meets all the aforementioned parameters. Thus, it is my assertion that sujamma is the Dunmer equivalent of tequila.

On another note, the 4th Era cocktail known as Cliff Racer would be practically undrinkable, due to the composition of the drink being composed of brandy, flin (a whiskey), wine, and sujamma.

    The Tool

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 11:04 PM PST

Hands-Run-Red leaned into the Dunmer as he gave the hilt of his dagger a sharp twist. He felt his target's stomach convulse around the blade. The dying body's protective instinct to curl around the wound brought ashen hands to his elbows and a sweating forehead to rest upon his shoulder. It was almost an embrace.

"N..." The Dunmer's voice was barely a whisper next to the Argonian's ear. "N'w-"

Hands-Run-Red ripped his blade down and out. The body collapsed, cut like a puppet from its strings. It joined four more bodies on the floor of the Council Club. A sixth lay slumped against the wall by the entrance upstairs. Hands straightened, then took a deliberate moment to relax his stance. It was done.

He looked down at the blade in his hand. It was a wicked-looking thing, an ethereal swirl of purple and black, all twisted lines and razor sharp curves. Rivulets of bright blood ran down the channels in the blade, somehow vanishing into the markings before they could drip onto the floor. Hands dismissed the magic. The blade vanished in an instant and the remaining blood fell free with a splat. Beneath where its surface had been rose the thin blade of the tanto that held the dark enchantment.

He sheathed his weapon and stepped over the corpses. Maybe Larrius Varro would have more leads on the Cammona Tong for him after this. The Imperial had been a useful shield against legal reprisal here in Balmora, but his information wasn't vital to the mission. His targets on Vvardenfell lived openly, flaunting their abuses. There was no shortage of work to be done.

Hands-Run-Red had been forced to be a tool once; a plow breaking the earth for his Dunmer masters. Now he chose to be a tool again; a knife parting flesh from bone to free his people. None of his kind would ever be property again.

    Need help with morrowind build

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 10:19 PM PST

So I'm new to morrowind as I've played both oblivion and skyrim and loved them both but I noticed that morrowind works entirely different. Too be specific I want to play a dunmer (my favourite race and I assume morrowind has lots of fire dmg in it) and I want to be sort of a combat/mag hybrid of sorts. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Any permanent consequences for story/ quest choices?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 07:33 PM PST

Im like 25hours into Morrowind (so just getting started lmao) and some of these quests seem like they're leading to choices I'm going to have to eventually make like between the two different thieves guild's and assassins guilds maybe. I remember The quest lines in Skyrim and oblivion being pretty singularly linear except with the skyrim where you could either join or destroy the dark brotherhood. This is a bulky game so I'd rather not have to do multiple replays or reloading really old game file because I didn't know about consequences in quest lines

    First proper playthrough

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 04:13 PM PST

So, after having the game for a few years and a couple of failed attempts, I think this is the one!

I made an argonian character, planning to make him the marsh guerrilla type. Major skills are: Spear, Alchemy, Medium Armor, Marksman and Sneak. Minor skills are: Short blade, Illusion, Acrobatics, Restoration and Athletics.

He's good rather than evil, but he's not scared of getting his hands dirty if needed. So far I reached Balmora after spending quite a time exploring around Seyda Neen. Joined Thieves Guild for the fences, Mages Guild to train my magic skills a bit, and House Hlaalu. I'm planning to do the main quest, but no rush.

Any suggestions on quests to do as a beginner, places to explore or factions to work for?

What do you think about the character itself? I'm not really sure of how appropiate the skill selection is.

    Thank you all in advance!

    Gameplay Addition Mods

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 03:23 PM PST

Hello, I'm someone who has played Morrowind a couple of times on console over the years, and I'm very excited to be starting my first PC playthrough soon. I was wondering if anyone knew of any fun mods that add more to the game in terms of gameplay or role play. Maybe something along the lines of a mod that lets you assign jobs to faction members once you become a guild master. Or something that adds a city you can build. These are just spitballs, I don't need those two exact things, I was just wondering what engaging content you have all found.

Thinking of playing Morrowind with 1 restriction. Is it possible?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 03:19 PM PST

    Skyrim-playing n'wah here.

I want to try playing morrowind without using magic, alchemy, or enchanting. I don't know much about the game, is it possible?

If so, what race, standing stone, and stat specializations should I pick?

    Game Crashing When Opening

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 12:11 PM PST

I have been playing Morrowind for a couple of weeks now and the game is stable for me once I am in the game (as long as I don't ALT+TAB) but it has a really hard time launching, I have Morrowind Enhanced, Morrowind Code Patch, and MGE XE downloaded, are there any other mods or patches that could make the launcher more stable so I can reliably boot up the game?

    Rebirth: multiple housing?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 11:29 AM PST

So, the MW Rebirth mod allows to get some property for the player through a specific NPC in Ebonheart. He offers a few options for the houses, and at some point I picked a house, bought it, then forgot about it, and finally decided to take a look, and... didn't really like it. I mean, the house provided is great, but I'd prefer something smaller/less vertical.

However, after getting back to the NPC to get another house and see if I'd like it, no topics were avaliable for buying a new house. In fact, console command "addtopic" didn't really work with him when I tried to add "property", "property listings", and a few house names I remembered from teh top of my head.

Is that by design, or a bug? Maybe someone knows how to go around it?
