It's taken 18 years, and I've finished. Now what to do?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 12:56 AM PST

It's taken 18 years and a pandemic - but finally the living gods are free, the blight is gone and those who should be dead are. Or will be, soon enough.

But what now? I have the expansions, but it feels so anti-climatic. I emerged from the depths of the final stronghold of the mountain red to see the moons and stars in the sky. To just move on to an expansion seems wrong.

I have Oblivion, but I asked the same questions there that I did here - how to play through the game once and see all that matters, but the answers I had were....lesser. Should I travel there next? Move to a different game, or....I don't know.

Where should I go, from here?

Racking my brain with this quest

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 05:35 PM PST

Finally decided to try a playthrough of this game. It's modded, but just the main stuff like patches, and some graphical mods. Everything is going fine so far, but now it seems I have a quest bug that no one on the internet has ever had, or I can't find a similar report.

The quest is The Death of Ralen Hllalo. I picked it up at one of my stops in Balmora, not sure when. I'm still basically at the start of the game, but I decided to get around to it, before moving on to another area. I asked around, got Nine toes as a suspect, he denied it. So I'm left scratching my head. I ended up looking up the wiki, just to get a heads up on what to do, and so i talked to Nileno and she said she wants the murderer found. No key was given, but I already was in the manor for the thieves guild.

Talked to the woman in there, and she said I killed the murderer. Which I now know is Velas and I killed him during Larrius's quest. Annnnd now it seems bugged. She said go back to Nileno, but there wasn't a journal update and going back doesn't bring a refreshed topic or anything? Dead end it seems.

I don't really mind if it's bugged, or if I can just use the console to remove or further the quest that'd be great. I really don't want to have to load all the way back to dealing with Velas the first time. Hopefully one of you can tell me I'm missing something painfully obvious. Thanks for any advice!

Would it be "cheating" if the first time I played Morrowind I used the "Better Balanced Combat" mod?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:07 PM PST

For reference: only elder scrolls games I have played are Skyrim and oblivion

The reason why is less to make the game "easier" and more so to make it less frustrating, well more so put the frustration somewhere else. I don't think the idea of whether you hit the person or not be a dice roll as it doesn't make sense and feels frustrating

In case you don't know the mod makes the combat more "real time" as in you always inflict damage when you hit. The difference with this one is there are other adjustments made, mainly how weapons do less damage per hit as well as making all the NPCs have wayyyy more health.

I was asking because I want your input. I am not going to install any other mods, just that one as I personally think it's a poor design choice rather than trying to make the game easier

Can the new Morrowind VR be linked with Morrowind multiplayer?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:43 AM PST

After seeing the new Morrowind VR it made me wonder if it could be combined with the Morrowind multiplayer that came out a few years back.

Anyone know? I have a few friends with VR headsets and this would be great fun if someone could figure out how to combine them.

I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to this engine or even coding in general, so I don't know if I'll be of any help trying to work it out.

If anyone has tried this then let me know!

So I just befriended a Kwama Forager worm thingy, just before it was gonna kill me (I'm very early in the game).

I was wondering, do the animals turn on you after the timer runs out? Or do they just die? How do I deal with it so it doesn't kill me lol?

MGE XE will not open on Windows 10

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 09:02 PM PST

I'm preparing to start Morrowind for the first time but I want to install some graphics mods first. I have installed MGE XE and Direct X 9 but it simply won't open when I install it. I've tried running it as administrator and in compatibility mode but it simply does not start, and I don't know what to do. I've installed inside and outside of Program Files( I only have one drive so I have to install on C:) what else can I do?

The Morrowind Diaries Chapter 5: The wrath of a good man

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 08:57 AM PST

Those damn Telvanni. I made my way back to Caldera to make a decision, and accidentally stumbled into the other mines. The men who hired us were slavers all along, the sons of bitches. I don't think I need to state how I'm going to handle this, but I'll make it clear. Thieves Guild outcasts, Telvanni, or anyone else profiting off of the suffering of the mine slaves here will pay.

I decided to plan ahead. The Telvanni seem like a huge Clan, and this town has a lot of powerful warriors and guards in it. I elected to do this as a stealth mission. I read their books and tried to understand them, but the truth is I simply don't know enough about accounting to cause them problems (which is funny because I'm in school for accounting IRL). Upon reading the ledger, I made the observations that the slaves were making them great profit.

I also heard that one of the slaves was causing trouble and was being punished. I thought of my father, dying in a shitty little cave like this one because of mine managers just like these Telvanni fools. I knew killing them would just get them replaced, but vandlaism and theft could actually hurt the Telvanni pocketbooks.

I didn't even hesitate to free the slaves the second I could cast my invisibility spell from my amulet. I freed 5 in total, and then used my invisibility amulet to steal over 200 pounds of ebony. I sold them and vowed that I would use the profit to free more slaves. I bought a new steel bow and some better arrows, hoping these would come in handy.

Then, I made my way to the bandit cave. I met a man outside who offered to train me in archery, and I pretended he had anything he could teach me. I acted like I didn't know who he was and accepted. After a few moments of pretending to knock an arrow for the first time, I called his name out and shot him in the throat as he turned. As his beady little eyes widened in fear, I fired 2 more arrows into them. Good riddance.

I walked into the cave and lunged at the unprepared bandits from behind a wall. I felt my adrenaline surge as I threw a brutal punch into a cat-woman's face. I spun, slammed my shield into another kajhiit's face to break her jaw, and kicked the last bandit into a wall. I then spun to catch the first kajhiit's attack. She lunged, claws drawn, but I was beyond ready. As I hid my intentions behind my shield until the last second, I drew my sword and waited for a split second. Then, just before she could tear my throat out, she saw my blade. The look of fear in her eyes was incredibly satisfying as she fell on a sword driven with her own momentum. A fitting end for someone who would profit from her own race's suffering.

With my sword lodged deep in the cats body, I left it there and slammed shield into the bandit I had just disarmed. The winded coward dropped in a few seconds after I slammed the spike of my dragonscale shield into his guts in rapid succession.

I then dropped to my knees as the cat with the broken jaw jammed her comrade's rusty sword into a gap on my back armor plates. My body was aflame with agony. My adrenaline had worn off and I barely managed to move fast enough to block her next strike. I had no weapon and was losing blood rapidly. I used my last bit of strength to jump up to a higher wooden platform.

Summoning everything I had left, I used my restoration practice to cast a spell that could stop the blood and intense pain. After a few moments the pain was more a dull ache, and I had stopped bleeding. I was still fading in and out of consciousness as the final cat dragged her blade up the steps to finish me. I knew this was bad and tried to think of something to do. Then, I suddenly had a brilliant idea. I drew my new STEEL bow just as she reached the top to take her first swing. I caught the sword and used the tough detailing on my bow to deflect the blade into the floorboards. I then charged forward with my shield and knocked us both off the platform. After a 15 foot fall, I landed on top of her with the force of 200 pounds plus my 150 pound armor set. The cat let out her last gasp as her eyes bulged in fear, a coward to her last breath.

I rolled off the dead thief I could only assume was the former fighters guild member in this coven. I crawled into a hammock, and spent the rest of my day resting and using restoration to heal my wounds. I then repaired my shield and sword, and headed back to get paid.

And then Eyedis refused my promotion. With a measly 400 gold, she sent me on my way and gave me some other quest to steal something from the south wall bar. I decided I was finished with this, and walked out of the guild to talk to the gods.

I prayed at the local temple that the slaves find safe travel. I still didn't know who to pray to, and I didn't like the idea of asking the gods to protect my hide when I keep doing things as reckless as this, but asking them to protect innocent people seemed ok.

And at that moment I realized that the gods WERE protecting me. By saving me and sending me to become a blade, these Aedra wanted me to do something important in this country. Freeing slaves, protecting the emperor, or something else. I guess I just have to do what I can to follow their lead.

(Break character) I decided to try and narrate the combat. Morrowind is a lot of fun but the mechanics for combat are not the most interesting. I figured doing a little play-by-play would hell keep things interesting and fun for everyone. I know this got a little dark but I figured it made sense to keep in character, and as we know Kailob hates both slavers and mine-owners specifically. At the end of the day, this game is rated M as well so I guess this isn't too bad.

Things are getting absolutely crazy with finals coming up right now so I likely won't be playing for a while, but I have plenty of notes taken and can probably make 3 or even 4 chapters off what I have. Obviously I'll have a lot more free time to make these over Christmas and can probably get on a regular schedule for posting weekly or maybe even more.

Finally, I'm interested in 1 or 2 more mods. I love the music but the entire games soundtrack is like 46 minutes, and I really wish there were a few more songs. I've heard theres an acoustics mod that also upgrades the sound effects? I also watched a few youtube videos and realized that my shitbox little PC can still probably handle SOME graphic enhancements. I'd really like to see the sky better if theres a mod for that, although I really like the sandstorms in the other cities. Don't worry, those cities are a big part of the story in the next few episodes.

Still cant decide if this series is leaning towards a lets-play or a sort of narrative storytelling vibe for me. Either way, I really like telling it so heres hoping you enjoy reading it. See you guys as soon as I get the next chapter written.

Looking for guidance on non-destruction mage combat tactics....

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 06:48 AM PST

Im trying to get the full mage experience but i always find myself doing the most basic approach to combat, mainly shock damage.

What are some good tactics for using mysticism, alteration, and illusion for combat to make things interesting and to be a more powerful flying wizard.
