This game is so addictive. (blind playthrough)

I'm playing an Argonian thief for the first time and I gotta say, this game is so much more interesting than I ever played. I'm truly mystified and scared of the world, it appearing alien and unique. First off, everyone hates me. Literally. Everyone just basically says "fuck off you dirty outlander". Maybe it has something to do with my race so I'd reccomend you pick dunmer so they don't hate you. I wanted to share a few of my adventures.

Just yesterday I made a trip over lava region (whatever it's called) from Suran for an imperial legion quest, and I found a giant fucking pyramid of some kind. I went into it and there was ominous lighting and some scary ass deformed freaky monsters. They one shotted me. I don't think they're Daedra cause they look different (they have some masks on them). Hopefully I'll come back once I'm better and find an explanation. Never in video games have I experienced this intense urge to explore.

Another time, near the Redoran capital, I found a Daedric ruin. I entered it and was instantly attacked by bandits. I used my levitation potion to hover and see if there was anything worthwhile, I found a green dagger and it cost 3000 gold. Just as I pick up this fucking dagger Dremora appears behind me. This was at 3am. I shat my pants. Fortunately I managed to escape my hopping around the dungeon and making it to the door. Just barely.

Just recently I had to open a 75 lock for thieves guild. Oh my god. I created a spell to open it, but I had zero chance. I assumed intelligence increases casting chance without checking and bought a shit ton of fortify int potions. Turns out it doesn't do shit. I had to find fortify willpower ones. No one had them. I had to go around the entire map looking for scrib jelly and whickwheat for HOURS, until I found enough to open that god damned chest.

I had to shake down a guy who owed lots of stuff to loads of traders. I was already a hated person in the city, but once I killed him, disposition dropped to single digits and some traders FLAT OUT refused to trade with me. Wtf.

I'm especially excited for the main quest, as I know it has something to do with the Red Mountain. Everyone is talking about people going wild. From what I understand there is a devil inside red mountain called Dogoth Ur which I learned from a savant in ebonheart. Tbh it seems like it might be merely some local lore, with the issue maybe having to do with Daedra that are angry at the Tribunal gods for replacing them. I found a red daedric shrine in Ald'ruhn so it might definitely be possible. This is just a theory so I'm definitely not sure if that's true.

I'm also interested in joining the assassins guild called Tong something. I'm wondering is it joinable or am I wasting my time trying to find it? I heard it's somewhere in vivec, which, by the way, is an absolutely gigantic city located entirely on water. I was also told that it's sewers have good loot and are relatively easy, so I'm interested in exploring that. The city feels something of a sci fi game with its giant pyramids, with a rock suspended above it (I tried to fly to it but could not go inside, I assume something secret might be there.)

Another thing that I like is the absence of quest markers. I was searching for the camp with some witch for the legion quest for a while, until I saw a torn book pages that lead me to it. I really like this and it feels immersive.

This game is an experience like no other, and I'm excited to continue my play through and discover more of the world.

EDIT: HOLY SHIT HLAALU EBONY QUEST GAVE ME GLASS ARMOR LEETS GOOOOOOOO!

EDIT2: WHO THE FUCK IS CURIO. I needed to talk to him to get a sponsor, and this little pervert bastard wanted to take MY CLOTHES OFF! Didn't even care that my character was male. What the fuck. I feel sexually violated. I want to murder him but I feel like it'll mess up a lot of stuff.

Big Thank You! to the person who made the real-time travel mods

    Posted: 30 May 2020 01:10 AM PDT

I downloaded a set of three mods, Boats, Gondoliers, and Silt Striders, which allow real-time travel. I'm a Morrowind veteran, I first played 17 years ago and have played occasionally since, and I have honestly never had this much fun with Morrowind.

All I've been doing the past few times I've played is go around Vvardenfell on boats and striders watching the scenery glide by, and I am just loving it. I am able to fully appreciate the scale, the extreme variety, and the depth of alienness of Vvardenfell, in a way I have never seen it before.

If anyone else is interested, you can find the mods here:

    Boats: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42270

    Gondoliers: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/43291

    Silt Striders: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/42267

Not sure about compatibility; I'm running MGE XE and a bunch of other mods just fine, but I don't think these are compatible with OpenMW, for instance.

    *Spoilers* New Playthrough Story

    Posted: 29 May 2020 08:17 PM PDT

It's been a real long time since I've played, but lurking this subreddit made me start up a new file. I wanted to share a cool story with you.

When I got to Caius Cosades, I started asking him about some lore and whatnot because I was curious to read the writing again. I asked about "Morag Tong", to which he replied a description of the faction. But after that, he says, "I have no idea how to join them." or something like that. It's a kick ass line, because it makes you really really want to join them. I've poured 1000's of hours into this game, but it's been maybe a decade since a real playthrough. Admittedly I've gone through the Morag Tong before, but I honestly forgot where/how to join! But that's perfect, I get the experience again!

I started talking to all the Dunmers in Balmora, and so many of them didn't have the "Morag Tong" topic. But that's what I wanted to happen. It makes the secret that much better. Finally, I found a Dunmer outside near the silt strider who heard of them. He said that the leader was Eno Hlaalu and that he's in Vivec somewhere. That took about 20 min to find so it felt really great. Actually I did remember the Morag Tong being in Vivec, but Vivec is huge. And this NPC didn't say which Canton.

I traveled to Vivec and talked to the first guard I saw, in the Foreign Quarter Canton. I asked about "Morag Tong" and he said something like "I see them here from time to time. I don't know where their headquarters are." At that point, I was deadset of finding these bastards. I could easily look this up, but it's sooo much better sniffing them out myself. I head into the waistworks and start asking around. A few NPCs had the Morag Tong topic and answered similarly, if not exactly the same, as the guard did earlier. Hmm mysterious. I head over to the next few Cantons and asked around, same answers. However, once I got out to the Hall of Justice / Temple area, no one even had the Morag Tong topic anymore, not even the guards. I figured that must mean that I'm cold, and should head back to where the guards have seem them.

I went all the way back to the Foreign Quarter, and finally found the lead I needed from a Dunmer. He said there's a rumor that the Morag Tong are headquartered beneath the Arena Canton. Ok, with that clue I head to the Arena Canton and went down stairs to the Lower Waistworks. A guard was standing the the middle of the hall there. I asked him about Morag Tong and he said something like "I see them from time to time at this post." At this post?! I think he's the only one who says that, which is pretty awesome design! I still haven't found the headquarters, but that unique line is like, "You're very very hot!"

So I head down to the Canalworks, and don't see anything obvious. I run around the sewers but don't find anything. I go back up to the Canalworks and find a storage room with some rats in it and a few locked doors. My brand new character actually struggles to open the doors, but I get the immediate ones open. Then I see another locked door, level 60, and I'm out of lockpicks. So I run allll the way back to the Foreign Quarter, get an Unhinging Scroll, and run allll the way back to the door, and I open it! And that happened to be it!

It's not an amazing story, but I was really impressed with that little "quest". People critique the dialogue in this game, that NPCs know everything about every faction. That Morag Tong hunt was very subtle, where some people knew a little, others knew more. When I couldn't find anyone who knew I anything, I had to backtrack. And even when I knew I was in the right place, it wasn't obvious. It made me work for it, well, made me want to work for it I should say. That was surprisingly awesome. Now I'm doing legal assasinations, a nice reward for my detective work.

Finally got that feeling I had back then playing Morrowind as a teenager, but better!

    Posted: 29 May 2020 08:35 AM PDT

I love morrowind and out of all games I played from childhood to now, it remained in the number one spot. Monster hunter world is very close but its in second place. Customization, the world, the npcs, the weapons, armor, lore, is just mind boggling that it sucks you in. I played this game many times on xbox and pc. Every time I play this game I always encounter something different when I thought i discovered everything. This game didn't hold your hand. You had to literally had to find everything on your own with a shitty map and the worse directions from npcs. And i like that including the frustrating combat. The first time I played I was a sword and shield main and joined as many factions as I could and was part of house hlaalu and completed all the dlcs. In my other play through i did the same thing.

Some months ago, I made an argonian witch doctor build joining house telvanni.telvanni. I wasn't really feeling the playthrough and got bored because I still hate House Telvanni till this day, magic scrolls were everywhere, access to alot of spells due to the money I accumulated and I already had decent enchanted items at like level 5. So I went back to mhw.

Recently, I went all out on a new character. I created some lore behind her too. I made a female Dunmer who is an ex-Marbigash who was exiled from the ashlander tribe because she was quite defiant due their despicable culture. She never believed in slavery or the teachings of the ghost snake. She is stoic, nomadic, lives off the land, not adept in alchemy, doesnt like or use magic, doesn't use enchanted items for combat (its quite dishonorable to her beliefs), or necromancy. She is uses spear (never used this weapon before but holy shit this is a hard weapon to use), long blade, and bow. She only uses her ability thats part of her birth sign and will only use scrolls for tasks that cant be completed through normal means (which is very rare). She also has a giant grudge against the commona tong and when she is confronted she takes them all out (yes i wiped out the corner club in balmora and made it my base). She believes in the old Ashlander ways but a bit more liberal about some issues while still being notable conservative and hold honor close to her heart. Her goal is to join House Redoran and eventually find the truth about Lord Nerevar because she always felt uneasy about the tribunal and never worshipped them. She always believed boethiah, mephala, and azura are the ones Dunmer should be loyal worshippers to. She is a warrior in heart who believes in honorable duels. She was born under the sign of the lady but she is quite intimidating and doesn't need or wants to trick men nor use them for the tribes evil spells and witchcraft.

I have not been able to put this game down. Im having more fun in this playthrough than even my first one. The game became significantly harder without any magic, op items, or alchemy. Its a challenge everywhere i go with very high chances of death or getting stuck. No almsivi intervention or divine intervention either. Only store bought potions or potions i find in different places and i carry 3 or 4 of each. I am doing everything the hard way. It was so rewarding besting umbra at level 15. My character only joins House Redoran, the fighters guild, and morag tong. She joins the temple as a pilgrim as a form of her walking a better path; however she does not embrace the teachings of vivec but do it to get closer to him to find the truth. She will not join the imperial legion, House Telvanni, House Hlaalu, mages guild, or thieves guild because of her beliefs. She fully supports the twin lamps freeing slaves as she goes and helping people who need aid. Im loving this feeling again of being completely immersed in the game having a challenge again being mindful of where i go, what i can can carry and being in the middle of nowhere with no items.

He is a god and fall off a bridge? Really?

Couldn't they have given him a better death than this?

I've installed everything correctly (I think), but when I try to launch MGEgui.exe it loads and then nothing happens. No pop up, no warning, nothing. Is anyone else having this problem and if so, does anyone know how to fix it?

Sleeping in a bed does not heal me for some mysterious reason. (OpenMW)

Whenever I go to a bed to "rest until healed," my health, magicka and stamina stay the same. I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I really don't wanna have to start over. I'm playing on OpenMW.

Starting Morrowind for the first time, any beginner advices please!

    Posted: 29 May 2020 11:30 AM PDT

The shear amount of customisation in terms of skills is freaking exhilarating, but I'm kind of scared of messing up later on and having to start over like I had to last year. Started Warrior Class, and got absolute butchered the moment I started going outside of Balmora. Any advices are welcome!

Is it harmless to use the console to complete a broken quest?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 05:26 AM PDT

    Hi all,

In my playthrough, the quest "Gateway Ghost" is broken. I need to talk to Arara Uvulas about some Ghost in Sadrith Mora, but the corresponding discussion topic is not showing up when I talk to her. If I try to interact with the person who gave me the quest in the first place, Angaredhel, he keeps telling me to go talk to Arara Uvulas. It seems that I can't complete the quest. If I use the journal command in the console to complete the quest and make it disappear from my journal, can it somehow harm my savefile and/or cause more bugs later on or is it safe to use?

    Thanks!
