    My Morrowind Journal, Foreword

Link to the preceding post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Morrowind/comments/ex0gb1/my_morrowind_journal_rebooted/

    Foreword

Contrary to most popular rumors, the Nerevarine was not, in fact, a dunmer. Most records of his identity were lost after the catastrophes which began the current era, from the eruption of Red Mountain to the fall of the Imperial City.

Most, but not all. This work represents a level of cooperation between scholars from all regions of Tamriel that has not been seen since the fall of the Third Empire. Originally, this was a competitive project between a team of archivists from the Aldmeri Dominion and a corresponding team from the Empire, focusing on a series of letters gathered throughout the continent concerning a Redguard hero, Evander, who served the various factions occupying Vvardenfell during the Blight. Academic interest in this hero was spurred largely by the resurgence of House Redoran, of whom he was a high-ranking member.

When the Aldmeri team was granted access to documents transferred from the Imperial Library to Alinor during the Great War, they soon discovered the real significance of this hero. Simultaneously, the Imperial team received a collection of records which claim to have been saved from the destruction of Cloud Ruler Temple. It was the Thalmor, who investigated this potentially dangerous claim, that united the two teams together.

The records received by the Imperial team detail the supposed involvement of the Blades in legitimizing the Nerevarine cult. The documents taken from the Imperial Library, meanwhile, purport to be the journal of this Evander the Redguard, with many of his actions involving the Blades or corresponding to the Nerevarine legend. The connections between the journal, which was considered dubious even by the Imperial Library, the records, whose provenance was doubted by the Thalmor, and the letters, whose validity was confirmed by the various parties which received and answered them, are detailed in an article published by the Aldmeri team.

It is understandable why the New Temple would seek to suppress this information, and even if House Redoran would gain much honor from having the Nerevarine be a former member of their ranks, their deep respect for Dunmer tradition forced them to follow suit. This work was not censured by either party when it was submitted for their consideration, but the aforementioned article did lose the endorsement of the Great House.

Two editions of this work are being published simultaneously. The folio edition contains an annotated version of the journal and the entire collection of letters gathered by both teams.

The edition you have before you is comparable to the popular "Anuad Paraphrased" in terms of goals and effort. This text is based on the journal, condensed and occasionally paraphrased. In doing so, the utmost care had been taken to maintain the literary style and include only the ideological biases of the original, but if there are any doubts as to the veracity of this effort, consultation of the folio is recommended.

By presenting the story of the real Nerevarine, a Redguard at a time when the native population of Morrowind was known to shun all other races or even members of their own race hailing from outside the province, through the work of a collection of individuals that itself transcends racial, political, and religious boundaries, we hope that this work would serve as a beacon of peace and solidarity to a continent ravaged by political and environmental catastrophe. We dedicate this work to the victims of the eruption of Red Mountain, Dunmer and Outlander alike, whom the Nerevarine, in his dual capacity as an individual and the incarnation of divine will, served faithfully and without prejudice.

    On the Origin of Species

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:23 PM PST

[The old, worn and leather-bound book is mostly unreadable, having decayed with age. The few readable words contain excerpts from the banned book "On the Origin of Species"]

    Charles Darwin

    Scholar, Imperial University

…The ash-skinned Dunmer were once the gold-skinned Chimer. If you were to ask a Dunmer versed in the knowledge of their people about when the Chimer became the Dunmer they will often offer stories of Daedric Princes, vengeance and penance. In accordance with Dunmeri legend, the Chimer were turned into the Dunmer by a Daedric Prince as a punishment for their sins…

…that the Dunmer, like all living organisms that currently exist on Nirn, evolved over time through a process of "natural selection". The Dunmer did not change in an instant, but rather their dark skin, resistance to fire, and other traits developed over an extensive period of time to serve as a means of survival in the volcanic ash-lands of Morrowind…

…The process by which this occurs relies upon the survival of organisms that possess advantageous traits, and the decline of organisms which do not…

…After all, several accounts exist of the dark-skinned dunmer from before the Battle of Red Mountain (see as an example "The War of the First Council" by Agrippa Fundilius), supporting the theory that the Chimer did not instantaneously become the Dunmer…

…maintained to keep a grasp on their power, Almalexia, Sotha Sil and Vivec instead crafted the…

…Indeed, we see similar adaptations in other populations. The Nords, for example, appear to have adapted over time to resist the frosty ice cold of Nirn's Northern climate. Argonians have adapted to resist the disease and poisonous swamps of Black Marsh, which have claimed the lives of so many un-adapted Imperial explorers…

…given that a species consists of a group of organisms capable of mating and producing fertile offspring, it can be concluded that Altmer, Dunmer, Bosmer, Bretons, Imperials, Redguards and Nords are all the same species and share a common ancestry (see earlier work: "Notes on Racial Phylogeny"). Indeed, any differences we see between the races of Tamriel may well be a result of natural selection, with each race having evolved to better survive in their environment…

…While there have indeed been some reports of Argonians and Khajiit (and even Daedra) producing fertile offspring with mer and men, this has yet to be confirmed empirically…

…The Altmer themselves claim to descend directly from the Aedra. Could it be that the Aedra are not the Gods of legend as they are often seen now, but merely an earlier (and very mortal) proto-form of the current races of Tamriel? The shared common ancestry between them?...

…of course, the tower itself was dated back to the Merethic Era, thousands of years before…

…advanced species, of superior technology and intellect, far beyond the capabilities of…

What music do you play Morrowind to?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 03:24 PM PST

One of my fondest gaming memories was walking around Ald'ruhn while listening to The Link by Gojira.

There's something about that albums mix of ambient woodwind rhythms and fast precise death metal that seemed to hit the ashland atmosphere right on the head. so i'm wondering if anyone else has listened to albums while playing Morrowind and they just 'clicked'. I plan on being a vulture and using responses as a playlist. Wealth beyond measure, Outlanders.

With the alchemy exploit I boosted my personality to over 100K. Now I'm unable to taunt people cause they like me sooo much. Humanoid NPCs that usually would attack on sight no longer do either. At least I can buy pretty much anything for 0 gold.

    Shield vs elemental shield?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 12:21 AM PST

What is the difference between simple shield and elemental shields? (I am referring to spells/potions/scrolls) do they have an additional elemental resistance or something? Do they still raise the armor rating? Or are they purely against elemental damage?

Can anyone help me enchant my Daedric Wakazashi?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:21 PM PST

Just got a Daedric Wakazashi as the Bound Dagger became a bit impractical, I want to enchant it but I hadn't touched enchanting before so I have no idea. I want Soul Trap on it if possible (I think it's only a 2second duration needed?), aswell as an enchant that is strong (but not like so OP it's not fun). I'm going to buy the enchant with gold probably as I'm 40int and don't want to waste my soulgems, but could anyone tell me what enchantments I should put on the dagger and at what magnitude/duration?

    Elemental Resistence/Immunity

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:26 PM PST

So, i'm testing the elemental mechanics in MW. And i noticed that having the Immunity to a certain element will oblidge the enemy to not cast any related element spell. (And that's bad, but kinda immersive). Questions are : •Do they change the behaviour if i have 99-95% Resistence? •Does exist a spell that reduce the "Self" elemental Resistence?

    OpenMW Modding Errors

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 03:35 PM PST

So I followed the Expanded Vanilla guide at modding-openmw.com copied the folder names meticulously, copied their configs from their auto generator. I am having some issues afterwards. Occasionally walking into a cave I instantly crash, no issues so far in interior cells otherwise.
I can deal with crashing though. The most annoying thing I'm running into is missing textures on just 3 mesh groups so far. I've posted a link to the images.

They're marshmerrow plants, kresh fiber plants, and muck sponges. I've also included the logfile and my config files. any ideas if I missed something?

Note: I've forgone the mudcrab/creeper merchant disable mod... I like having an easier place to sell ridiculous stuff than Mournhold.

    OpenMW 1.0

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 02:53 AM PST

So a couple years ago someone on the openmw fourms asked when openmw will hit 1.0 and someone said that when these features are complete it will be ready for a 1.0 release

Feature #824: Fading for doors and teleport commands Feature #1161: Autodetect encoding of Morrowind installation files Feature #2509: Editor: highlighting occurrences of a word in a script Feature #2834: have openMW's UI remember what menu items were 'pinned' across boots. Feature #2860: [MAC OS X] Cannot Command + Tab while in fullscreen Feature #2923: Option to show the damage of the arrows through tooltip. Feature #3099: Disabling inventory while dragging an item forces you to drop it Feature #3274: OpenMW-CS: Script Editor - Shortcuts and context menu options for commenting code out and uncommenting code respectively Feature #3442: Default values for fallbacks from ini file Feature #3491: Support Software-Side Gamma Correction Feature #3492: Show success rate while enchanting Feature #3537: Water ripple vfx Feature #3602: Implement NiBillboardNode flags Feature #3740: Gamepad GUI Mode

and the 1.0 release will include this

Feature #452: Rain-induced water ripples Feature #1113: NPC door AI Feature #1374: AI: Resurface to breathe Feature #1421: Console commands (Help, ToggleBorders) Feature #1645: Casting effects from objects Feature #1724: Handle AvoidNode Feature #2229: Improve pathfinding AI
