What is this Morrowind Editor that keeps popping up in mods?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 10:26 PM PDT

I just got into modding Morrowind, and so far things are going well. I just recently got a mod that adds in a bunch of companions, and it says that you can use it to add your own custom companions into the game using it, and all you need is "the editor".

But what exactly is this editor that it speaks of? I have seen it come up in a few mods before, too, so I assume that it is common.

Here is the text that mentions it from the mod that I just installed (the one with all of the companions):

    1. Save a backup of the original mod.

    2. Open the Partner mod in the editor making it the active file. Click on the NPC tab.

    3. Right click any NPC listed, and choose new. Create your NPC in the NPC creation window choosing name, race, class, armor, weapons, etc. Make the NPC a member of the Partners faction with the rank of Stranger. Save your work, which will exit the window. This will assign all the Partner topics and dialogue to your new NPC.

    4. Double click on the NPC file name in the NPC list, and the NPC window will open again. This time click on the Dialogue button in the lower left hand corner to open the Dialogue window. Check to see if you have topics at the top of the topic list on the left with asterisks after them, e.g. -conversation*, -friendship*, -relationship*, etc. If they are there, then your new custom NPC dialogue is all set to go. Close the dialogue window, press Save at the bottom of the NPC creation window.

    5. Open the script editor, open partnerfollow script, highlight the text, press Crtl C, open a new script file, click in the text box, and press Crtl V, which copies the text into the new file. Change the name of the script on the top line to your new NPC's name, save, and then exit. Reopen the NPC creation window and assign the new script to your new NPC in the NPC creation window. Press Save again to save your work.

    6. Open the area on the map you wish to place your new NPC, and then click on your NPC file name and drag him to the spot you want, drop him on the map, and press F to drop him in place. Save the mod as CM_Partners_mymod or something equivalent.

    7. Test your new custom NPC in the game to see if he or she actually works.

What is this editor and how can I get it?

Here is the mod for reference, I guess.

Playing the game again after years.

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 09:49 PM PDT

I've never finished the game. I'm playing on Xbox so I wont have mods. Any tips to make the game more fun to play without mods?

Anyone know how big Vardenfell is exactly?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 04:31 AM PDT

Just curious if anyone ever managed to accurately measure it from the northern most point to the southern most point.

My guess is that it's somewhere between 3 to 4 miles long.

What exactly does the difficulty slider do?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 09:08 AM PDT

I've never wanted to use it before because I was afraid it might be kinda like cheating or even possibly brake the game, but my current character is really shit right now and I think I should perhaps try scaling down the difficulty to help me get a much needed leg-up on the opposition.

What exactly does changing the difficulty do, though?

Anyone else have this music/audio problem?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 01:26 PM PDT

I'm running Morrowind on my old Windows XP - have done so for years - and annoyingly, the game's music has always had a terrible quality, it sounds all scratchy. All the other sounds, like voices and general sound effects, work perfectly though.

I've tried to do a bit of research on this issue, but I'm struggling to turn up anything helpful.

So far I've managed to discover that apparently Morrowind plays it's music files directly through windows, or something like that. Unlike how the other sounds, like voices, are internalized or something.

If I go into the Morrowind/data files/music folder, I see all the songs in MP3 format. If I open them with Windows Media Player, they sound terrible, just like they do when playing in the game, but if I open them in PotPlayer (a third party media player I use instead of Windows' default media player) the song sounds perfect.

So I suppose this is some sort of... I don't know, possibly an audio driver issue of some kind? My PC's using ESS Allegro for audio, if that matters.

I realize this probably isn't a Morrowind specific issue, but it's the only game on my PC that has ever had this problem. This leads me to believe this might possibly be a common issue with Morrowind players? Is there perhaps a patch or tool to somehow fix this?

Any feedback would be appreciated, and I hope you have a great weekend.

What's the differences between different types of arrows?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:21 AM PDT

I've always found it odd how arrows just tell you their weight and value. Surely they each have differing damage outputs?

Is there a way to fix a save modified with MGSO?

    Posted: 02 Nov 2019 08:54 AM PDT

It's just sounds and textures, right? So there must a way to update them without breaking the game, right? Or do I just have to start a new save. How do I fix this?
