Morrowind 2020 Summer Modjam - Results Thread - 17 New Mods Released!

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 10:29 AM PDT

This last weekend, we hosted the second of our bi-annual modjams, the first 2020 Summer Modjam! Modders had only 48 hours to come up with, design, and release a mod over the weekend that matched our chosen theme, selected by popular vote! Over 83 votes were cast, and our theme for the Summer Modjam ended up being "Ashlanders", and over the course of the weekend, 17 mods, created by some 19 individual modders, were released for the Modjam.

Our modders released quite a variety of mods utilizing their interpretation of the "Ashlanders" theme, including new quest mods, dungeon mods both with all-new dungeons and overhauls of vanilla dungeons, a house mod, new graphic effects, and immersive additions, among other things!

You'll find a full list of the submitted mods for the Summer 2020 Modjam below! If you missed out, don't forget that our next competition, the 2020 season of Morrowind Modding Madness, our team-based modding competition, will be returning again this year on October 1st! Any of you ladies and gentlemen, know any mods that can make you look like Sotha Sil? His style is so badass, and I am trying to play with a mage that is obsessed with the Dwemer. To anyone who comment, thank you, may the Tribunal bless you.

Faces of Morrowind: Meet Marthen Redri, a humble, aged fisherman from the remote village of Bahrammu, one of the northernmost in the province. He doesn't live in the village proper though, his shack is further away, right on the beach and surrounded by mudcrabs.

You liked the Ald'Ruhn Guild of Mages, so here's another pic. Our beloved dead crab makes for a nice Manor District.

Almalexia no, you can't just start force-choking people when you get annoyed, this isn't the right canon for that! (art by me)

What are some good roleplay "quests" for a character?

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 07:18 PM PDT

By quests I don't mean official quests but more like character goals, specifically ones that are concrete and gameable. Some examples might be:

    • A Temple scholar working to collect all 36 Lessons of Vivec

    • A guild cartographer working to completely map out a section of the world (or the whole continent)

    • A vampire hunter working to completely wipe out the three clans on Vvardenfell

    • A priest from Necrom working to visit every tomb on Vvardenfell, pacifying any undead and killing any intruders

    • a researcher attempting to collect an instance of every Dwemer object in the game

Things like this, specific goals for characters besides completing actual quests that give the player something new to do.

using morrowind launcher twice crashes morrowind.

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 09:24 PM PDT

so ive recently figured out the if i lets say open up morrowind via the launcher play for a while then close it, the next time i open the launcher it wont boot correctly sometimes changing the display ratio and then crashing so i manually have to go into setting and reajust my display ratio, or it just wont boot at all. on top of that the first time it happened i reopened it and tried to change the graphics setting as i originally thought it was that but then i got a graphics error on bootup. AND on top of that the first time it happened when i shut it down and started it up earlier something had made my computer inable to sign in to my account so i had to logout and restart to get back in, not that bad but still a big inconveniance. i noticed this after installing the morrowind code patcher but im not sure if i have opened closed and reopened morrowind before installing so i dont know if thats the reason its crashing.

for a bit of information im using a windoows 10 lenovo laptop with the gog goty version of morrowind installed, i also have as previously mentioned the code patcher installed.

i havent tried booting the launcher playing the game closing it and then booting straight to the game instead of the launcher but i dont wanna try playing it closing it and then reopening it in fear of damaging something, so i want to wait until i have an advisable solution.

should i uninstall and reinstall a clean copy?, may it have something to do with gog galaxy? so many questions.

worst comes to worst i have to reboot the pc before playing again but thats not that bad i guess, id still like a positive fix tho.

    cheers in advance.

Just finished the main quest last night

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 09:25 AM PDT

Last night I finally put an end to Dagoth Ur's reign of chaos and blight and I just have one thing to say: wow. In my life I have never experienced something as unique as Morrowind, the places I went along the way, the characters, the lore and the way it's all presented trough architecture, sound, etc. It's just impressive. The prophecy ended but I will keep going, still have a lot to explore and things to marvel at. Just wanted to share it with you, thanks for reading. c:

Maybe the dwemer pushed themselves through time?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 01:53 AM PDT

I don't have a whole lot to base this off of, but it's my understanding that numidium caused time distortions when it was used, and Alduin was dealt with by pushing him forward through time. Could it be possible that instead of destroying themselves, or transporting them all into Oblivion or another realm, Kagrenac actually pushed them far into the future when their enemies would be long dead? Maybe Red Mountain exploding was them coming out of the portal of time created by his profane tools?

    What do you all think?

Graphic overhaul mod (outdated) perks and cool things

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 11:55 PM PDT

I don't know about the more modern ones, but the one listed on Nexus that says "Outdated" on it added a few cool things to it. First off, Vivec and Dagoth Ur's dialogue is all now voiced (I think using the cut dialogue from the game), and the second Wraithguard now doesn't permanently take away your health. Just a couple cool things I noticed.

Avoid those ashlands trees though. You clip right into them and then can't get out.

Oh, and I picked that mod because of the super easy instillation.

How TF do you actually mod morrowind?!

    Posted: 17 Aug 2020 06:56 PM PDT

    Hi!

So, I've been modding in Daggerfall unity for the past six months and its honestly just the simplest thing to do. You download the mod file, put in the mod folder, enable it in the launcher and thats basically all there is to it.

So I decided to download morrowind through steam and mod that too, because surely it beats playing on the xbox, right? Cant be that hard, surely? I found a number of online guides and got to work.

Im sat here six hours later, having just uninstalled morrowind and deleted every related file that I can find from my pc. I could swear I followed every instruction to the letter, and yet nothing seems to take.

Morrowind code patch went okay, but MGE wont even start up. I used the latest version first and after installing and clicking run on the GUI- nothing. Not a squeak. I found a forum topic that instructed me to set the launcher, exe and gui to run as administrator and to make sure the launcher ran 800x600 resolution. Still nothing. So I decided to try the 2008 version. This time I had two dialoge boxes telling me that vital .dlls were missing and it couldnt function. Attempting to run the launcher gave the same error message. Uninstalling MGE saw that message disappear from the launcher and I could start the game as normal.

I gave up on MGE. I decided to try the facepack mod. Again, i'm sure i followed all the instructions correctly, extracted the .esm, .esp and the other one (was it .bas?) To the data files along with the registry tool. The instructions said that running the registry tool from the data files folder would add all new data to the morrowind.ini so that everything would work and the registry tool said all necessary stuff was already in place when i ran it, but starting up created a neverending run of missing directories. I was also using wrye mash (which was also a massive PITA to get running but I got there eventually) and followed the instructions to utilise the .esm rather than .esp, activated the compilation version rather than the individual subpacks, but no luck. When I switched them all off again and tried to run the game, it seemed like everything from the core game files could not be found either.

So now i've given up and wiped the whole thing. Every guide i find seems to assume that I know a whole heap of jargon and coding stuff that I simply dont know.

So, is there a guide for total idiots and novices out there somewhere that doesnt make any assumptions and breaks it all down, ministep by ministep? Are there no programs out there that will just figure all this stuff out if you feed the mod files in directly? Is there an easy way to do all this, like it was with DFUnity, or do I need to go study coding for a decade to actually mod this game?

I also downloaded oblivion with the intent of modding that too. Is that going to end up as the same massive ballache that modding morrowind is proving to be?

    Help!
